Simple answers regarding Islam

Let's get to the point!

Typical Guy:
Are you Moslems terrorists?

My Response: Far from it. Islam means "Submission," or in other words: "Surrender." When you surrender yourself completely to Allah, you are a Muslim. The root word of Islam is Salaam, which means peace, not terrorism.

Typical Guy: Allah? Who is this guy?

My Response:
This is not a "guy." Allah means "The One." Allah is GOD! The same God that Christians and Jews worship to. Read the Bible in Arabic; you will see "Allah."

Typical Guy: Wow! So what's this Jihad thing?

My Response:
Jihad literally means "to struggle." Jihad is of two types: Internal and External. Internally a soul struggles against its own desires. Everyday, humans are doing "Jihad" and you don't even know it. Externally, a Muslim struggles against oppression. This Jihad has certain rules: It is forbidden to kill the women and children. It is forbidden to chop down trees and tear up crops. It is very comprehensive, and one really needs to learn all the rules of Jihad.

Typical Guy: Hey! I'm a typical guy! I don't read books, I just watch Fox News. Anyways, do you oppress your women?

My Response:
Do me a favor: Go up to a random Muslim girl. Don't get all flirty with her. Respect her. Walk up to her and ask her if she is "oppressed." There you have your answer! You don't ask a Muslim MAN whether he is oppressing a Muslim woman, you ask the woman herself! Also if Islam was really that "oppressive" to women, why is it that there are 3 times more women embracing Islam everyday than men?

Typical Guy: Wow! I did not know that. So why do they have those black veils or scarves?

My Response:
It is to cover themselves. In the Quran (our Holy Book in Islam) in Surah 33, verse 59 it orders women to cloak themselves from men. This is so they may be known as "free, respectable women." It is actually the opposite of the views in America. The more a woman reveals of herself, the more she "thinks" she is free but really is enslaved by society. In Islam, to be known as a free respectable woman, you must cloak yourself from men. There ARE evil men with selfish desires out there. Having a veil on your body, including your hair, is a sign of complete modesty. Even some Christian & Jewish in other countries practice this! I don't really know too much about Muslim women and the veil (all I know is that I wouldnt marry a woman who didn't respect herself by being naked.) The website below explains everything in more details.. it is very interesting!

There is a website run by Muslim women and include articles for and by them. Check it out http://members.tripod.com/oum_abdulaziz/women.htm

Typical Guy: Cool! I'll tell my wife to check it out. So what's up with the beard?

My Response:
Having a beard is NOT a bad thing! Didn't umm Santa Clause have a beard? You know, nowadays having a beard has turned from a noble, gentle thing to a terroristic and harsh quality. Muslims aren't the only people who have beards.

Typical Guy: Man this is totally weird! This is all different from what I see on Fox News and CNN and CBS!

My Response:
Is it? Try to research who really owns our media. Who owns CNN? Who owns CBS? You will soon see a pattern and the relationship between all the owners. I don't want to spoil it, so I will leave the research up to you. Also I blame some Muslims. Yes! I blame Muslims. Why? Here's the deal: "People HATE what they can't understand." Most people don't really understand Muslims and Islam. Therefore by default, they hate it. Most Muslims don't do anything to educate the non-Muslims about Islam. If Muslims don't speak up and stand up for their religion, then obviously non-Muslims will "try" to explain Islam. And most of the times, non-Muslims really don't understand Islam themselves. They don't even understand their own religions. The same thing happened during the Vietnam War! With the Kamakazis (Suicide Bombings) and the so-called "evil" Japanese people, typical Americans begin to demonize those poor Asians. Look at blacks! Even on the news nowadays, you see black people "looting" during hurricane season and white people are basically "taking it because of survival reasons." It is really stupid! It is time for us to REJECT all kinds of prejudice, not to embrace it. Help your fellow Muslims. Help your fellow blacks. (Help Black Muslims also) Help your fellow Hispanics, Asians, Whites, etc.. Martin Luther King said it best: "A threat to justice anywhere is a threat to justice EVERYWHERE."

Instead of pointing fingers and criticizing any group of people, just try to understand them. You don't have to agree with their every point, but just try to understand them!

Three Men and the Angel

The Story of the Angel and the Three Men
Once the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) told his companions the story of three of the Children of Israel - a leper, a bald man and a blind man. To test the gratitude of these three poor men. Allah sent an angel to each of them.

To the leper, the angel said, "Of all things, which would you most love to have?" The leper replied, "A beautiful complexion, beautiful skin and a cure for the ailment for which people shun me." So the angel passed his hands over the man, and his wishes were granted. The angle again asked, "Of all things, what would you most love to possess?" "Camels," he replied. So he was given a pregnant she-camel. As the angel left, he said, "May Allah bless it."

To the man with the bald head, the angel said, "Of all things, what would you most love to have?" The man replied, "Beautiful hair and a cure for this baldness for which people shun me." So the angel passed his hands over him and his wishes were granted. Again the angel asked, "Of all things, what would you most love to possess?" "Cows," he replied. So he was given a pregnant cow. And the angel said, "May Allah bless it."

To the blind man, the angel said, "of all things, what would you most love to have?" He replied, "My sight restored by Allah, so that I can see people." So the angels passed his hands over him, and he regained his sight. Then the angel said, "Of all things, what would you most love to possess?" "Sheep," he replied. So he was given a ewe with its lambs. And the angel said, "May Allah bless them."

All the animals multiplied, so that the first man had a valley full of camels, the second a valley full of cows and the third a valley full of sheep.

Later, the angel came to the first man and said, "I am a poor man, unable to travel any further without Allah's help -or yours. By the One Who has given you wealth and a beautiful skin and complexion, give me a camel to ride on my journey."

The man replied, "I have too many obligations and I cannot give you one." The angel said, "I seem to recognize you. Weren't you once a leper whom people shunned? And weren't you poor before Allah gave you so much?" The man replied, "I inherited this wealth from a nobleman, who inherited it from a nobleman." The angel said, "If you are a liar, may Allah turn you back into a leper."

Then, he came to the man who once had a diseased scalp and made the same request as he had to the first man. His plea was similarly turned down. The angel said, "If you are a liar, may Allah turn you back into a bald man."

Coming to the third man, he said, "I am a poor, homeless man, unable to reach my destination, unless Allah, or you, can help me. By the One who restored your sight, give me a ewe to help me on my way." The man said, "I was blind, and Allah restored my sight. So take whatever you will and leave whatever you will, for, by Allah, I will not grudge you anything you take for His sake." The angel said, "Keep your wealth, for you were only being tested. You may keep your blessings, but your companions have lost all."

The moral of this story:

We should always be grateful for the blessings Allah bestows on us, and ready to help others.

Random Quran Teachings (3)

If a woman fears cruelty
If a woman senses oppression or desertion from her husband, the couple shall try to reconcile their differences, for conciliation is best for them. Selfishness is a human trait, and if you do good and lead a righteous life, GOD is fully Cognizant of everything you do.
an-Nisa' (Women) 4:128

You CAN be replaced
If He wills, He can do away with you, O people, and bring others [in your place]. And ever is Allah competent to do that.
an-Nisa' (Women) 4:133

How much Allah dislikes those who are Unjust
O believers! Stand firm for justice and bear true witness for the sake of Allah, even though it be against yourselves, your parents or your relatives. It does not matter whether the party is rich or poor - Allah is well wisher of both. So let not your selfish desires swerve you from justice. If you distort your testimony or decline to give it, then you should remember that Allah is fully aware of your actions.
an-Nisa' (Women) 4:135

Those who repeatedly enter/exit Islam
As for those who accept the faith then renounce it, who again embrace it and again deny it, and go on increasing in unbelief, Allah will neither forgive them nor guide them to the Right Way.
an-Nisa' (Women) 4:137

What to do if someone mocks Islam?
He has already revealed for you in the Book that when you hear Allah’s revelations being denied or ridiculed by people, you must not sit with them unless they change the topic of their talk, otherwise you shall be considered guilty like them. Rest assured that Allah is going to gather the hypocrites and the unbelievers all together in hell.
an-Nisa' (Women) 4:140

How the Hypocrites pray
Surely the hypocrites try to deceive Allah, whereas, in fact, He has reverted their deception to them; when they stand up for Salah they stand reluctantly, merely to be seen by people and do not remember Allah but a little
an-Nisa' (Women) 4:142

A couple reasons why the Jews are cursed
And because of their (Jews) disbelief and uttering against Maryam (Mary ) a grave false charge (that she has committed illegal sexual intercourse)
an-Nisa' (Women) 4:156

And because of their saying (in boast), "We killed Messiah Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary), the Messenger of Allah," - but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but the resemblance of Iesa (Jesus) was put over another man (and they killed that man), and those who differ therein are full of doubts. They have no (certain) knowledge, they follow nothing but conjecture. For surely; they killed him not (i.e. Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary) )

Did you know?

Islam is growing about 2.9% per year, faster than total world population, which increases at about 2.3% annually.

It's TRUE!

Random Quran Teachings (2)

How Just is Allah?
Surely Allah wrongs not the weight of an atom; and if it is a good deed, He multiplies it and gives from Himself a great reward.
an-Nisa’ (Women) 4:40

Women Rights in the Quran?
O ye who believe! Ye are forbidden to inherit women against their will. Nor should ye treat them with harshness, that ye may Take away part of the dower ye have given them,-except where they have been guilty of open lewdness; on the contrary live with them on a footing of kindness and equity. If ye take a dislike to them it may be that ye dislike a thing, and Allah brings about through it a great deal of good.
an-Nisa' (Women) 4:19

Will Allah forgive us?
Allah wishes to forgive you, but those who follow their lusts wish to see you deviate far away from the Right Way.
an-Nisa' (Women) 4:27

A clear message to the Jews and Christians
O people of the Book (Jews and Christians)! Believe in what We have now revealed (The Qur'an), confirming your own scriptures, before We obliterate your faces and turn them backward, or lay Our curse on you as We laid Our curse on the Sabbath- breakers: and remember that Allah’s command is always executed.
an-Nisa' (Women) 4:47

How should we judge between people?
Allah commands you to give back the trusts to their rightful owners, and when you judge between people, judge with fairness. Surely, excellent is the counsel which Allah gives you. Allah is He who hears and observes all.
an-Nisa' (Women) 4:58

What should I do if I have a fight with my wife?
If you fear a breach of marriage between a man and his wife, appoint one arbiter from his family and another from hers; if they wish to reconcile, Allah will create a way of reconciliation between them. Allah is the Knowledgeable, Aware.
an-Nisa' (Women) 4:35

Companion of Wisdom

When people think about succeeding in life, they usually view it in a practical sense. As a result, they forget that the seeds of success are first planted within. There are three important seeds which work together to bring success to a person. Napoleon Hill once said these famous words: “Patience, persistence and perspiration make an unbeatable combination for success.” For a person to truly walk the path of success, an understanding of patience is required. Patience, as itself, is the leading cause for every good that occurs in people’s lives.
Being patient helps people control the flow of their daily routine. When a person masters the art of patience, he can monitor every step and aspect of his life. For example, the opposite of patience is rush. That rush has many levels including anger and hatred. Everyone knows anger is one of the most poorly handled emotions in society today. Anger triggers the evilness of a person and brings it out to display that person in humiliation within himself. Through learning patience, a person can effectively develop a sense of control to keep it. Being patient with oneself, a person can work life through his own speed without the need for additional pressure. Depression is allergic to patience and refuses to enter anyone who has patience in himself.
Patience also constricts a person from making mistakes. How many times have men and women in the past ruined the flow of perfection because of lack of patience? Learning from the past, a person can realize the tracks of all destructions lead to impatient behavior. A person would rush into any action, mainly war, thinking he has full knowledge of something and ends up ruining his reputation in the books of history. This negligence leads to impatience. When a person has serenity, he stops and checks before taking action. Once applied correctly, patience leads man to a narrow line of perfection.
Last but not least, a person can achieve happiness with patience. Depression often seems to run amok and searches for any person with a lack of calmness. If depression was ever that fire which would burn man, patience would be the water. Anything else would eventually be more fuel. Patience brings hope to a person and lights up a dark tunnel for all who wander through life. Only if a person has that peacefulness within, can he/she fully appreciate and live without definite worries. Most people keep themselves busy for years and years hoping to reach that state of calmness before they die. Yet they do not live long enough to experience it. Imagine if a person at a young age recognizes this and applies patience into his life. Only then, can he achieve what Buddhists call “Nirvana” in this life and the next to come.
Finally, based upon the reasons above, one can conclude that for every good a person does, the leading cause behind it is patience. This will gently allow a person to do justice to himself. People will go through their entire lives searching for that “feeling” of calmness. They will turn to drugs, violence and other indecent sources, which will never benefit them nor give them what they are looking for. The solutions to all our problems begin with patience, and only though patience, can a person truly succeed in life.

Random Quran Teachings (1)

The Truth Stands Out
“Let there be no compulsion in religion. The truth stands clear from error. Whoever rejects evil and believes in Allah, has grasped the most trustworthy handhold, that never breaks. And Allah hears and knows all things.”
al-Baqarah (The Cow) 2:256

A Direct Challenge
“And if you are in doubt as to that which We have revealed to Our servant, then produce a chapter like it, and call on all of your helpers, besides Allah, if you are truthful.”
Note: It has been over 1400 years…nobody has done it yet (and never will)
al-Baqarah (The Cow) 2:23

Do not remind others of your favors
Those who spend their wealth in the Cause of Allah, must remember that they have not obliged any persons. Therefore they do not afflict them with reminders of their generosity. Their reward is with their Lord. On them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.
al-Baqarah (The Cow) 2:262

Kind words and respecting people's honor is better than charity coupled with injury. Allah, the Rich, the Clement, provides everyone without return or obligation.
al-Baqarah (The Cow) 2:263

O You who have chosen to be graced with belief! Cancel not your charity by reminders of your generosity or by injuring the self-respect of the recipients; like those who spend their wealth for show-off. This kind of behavior contradicts the true belief in Allah and His Law of Recompense. Charity has been ordained to help individuals and not to hurt them, and Allah has promised you manifold reward. But, a seed won't grow on a dusty rock, upon which rain falls and washes it clean. Even Allah won't guide those who deny such simple realities.
al-Baqarah (The Cow) 2:264

The Quran, Bible & Torah are all from the same God
It is He Who sent down to thee (step by step), in truth, the Book, confirming what went before it; and He sent down the Law (of Moses) and the Gospel (of Jesus) before this, as a guide to mankind, and He sent down the criterion (of judgment between right and wrong).
al-Imran (The Family of Imran) 3:3

Random Quran Teachings (Intro)

Huh? Quran? What’s that?
Quran, Koran, Qoran, Kuron – It’s all the SAME BOOK, just different spelling.

How do you say it? (So you don’t sound stupid?)
Quran ( This spelling will work!

How to say the word “Quran”?
  • American Accent: The “K” sound in “cake” will work for the “Q” in Quran. Now say “Kerr” (as in Kerr High School) and add an “on” (as in “on the rooftop”).

Nowadays.. frequently, I will be posting some random things I have learned from the “Quran.”

What is the Quran?
It is the LITERAL word of God in Arabic. For Muslims, this is our Holy Book. Like for Christians, it is the Bible. For Jews, it is the Torah. Every book has wisdom in it; not only for the follower of that religion but for others also. For example: even though I am a Muslim, I read the Bible and the Torah also. One verse in the Bible which really moves me is:

"What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul?" (Matthew 16:26)
